HOW A 4-YEAR-OLD DID THE VOICEOVER FOR PEPPA PIG

This is so random, but I still thought it was an interesting tidbit. The original voice of Peppa Pig was a 4-year-old girl who couldn’t read the script. So they had her mom read the lines to her, and the girl would then copy her.

I thought that’s an interesting way of doing things, and also makes me wonder why they chose this kid. Surely there were many other kids a little older with a bit more experience and the ability to read who could have been Peppa’s voice, but something about that kid made them think: “Yeah, this is worth the extra hassle.”

It’s hard to tell in retrospect how things would have turned out with someone else being the voice of Peppa, but it still makes me wonder. Someone who made the creative decisions on that team made a good call and had the sense of judgment to use that voice, which by now is iconic, and I wonder how much the sum of making good judgment calls contributed to the success of Peppa Pig.
